"Hi, my name is Cat and I have a crush on the Panic! At the Disco fandom."
Wait, maybe I should start at the beginning.
Almost five years ago, when I was a wee and innocent sophomore in high school, a friend was enthusing about some Japanese cartoon show called "Gundam Wing". Like I said, I was as yet an innocent ans so when she asked me if two guys "you know, kissing or whatever" freaked me out I raised an eyebrow but let curiosity drag me down what would become an increasingly slippery road to the special fluffy hell reserved for hopeless fangirls like myself. That was back in the day of Smoochies and late nights sifting through ff.net, when I discovered forums and soaked up terminology like a sponge, when
blue_soaring and
ponderosa121 had their own file folders on my harddrive (they still do) and I worked my way through pretty much every fic Dacia had archived on A Little Piece of Gundam Wing.
Gundam Wing (to this day my favorite fandom) was quickly followed by various other anime fandoms that even I can't remember anymore (except Yu Yu Hakusho which I did write fic for, and now when I read it I want to curl up and cry a little), then the treacherous waters of the Harry Potter fandom, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Good Omens and the many miscellaneous fandoms that I dipped a toe in while following a particular author or artist.
Then came college and my time to spend on the internet dwindled to a few hours on the weekend, if I was lucky. I stopped checking the fansites and story archives that had been my main access to the fandoms.
Then, right around the time I was finishing up the academic year and getting ready to take a leave of absence, my LiveJournal friendslist (mostly
ladyjaida of Shoe Box Project fame) started flailing about some show called Supernatural. Since I fangirl
ladyjaida like there's no tomorrow, I torrented the entire first season after finals week.
A few days later I was hooked. But not so much on the show as on the ridiculous fannish glee of
ladyjaida and
sevenfists and the rest. They'd squeal and I'd run off to watch the episode so I'd know what they're talking about. Basically, I fan the fans*. I'm the ultimate voyeur, fluent in at least eight fandoms and now -for the first time ever- I'm going to actually join in the fun.
(My current obsession with Panic! At the Disco happened the same way and it entirely
sevenfists's fault.)
I currently have no less than nine fics in progress in Supernatural (mostly porn), Gundam Wing (a giant AU, a few cracked out one-shots and a post-EW series) and yes, even one ridiculous epic in Harry Potter.
In addition to fic, I'll be posting recs and links to my favorite fandom superstars, and maybe even some meta. Who knows what could happen.
Welcome to Catamarific. Please, sit back and enjoy the ride.
*(As far as I know, I am the first
admitted documented case of a fan of the fandom rather then the original show/series/book/band/etc. I'm still trying to figure out what to call it, though I'm close to settling on
betafan. Suggestions are welcome, though.)
